The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ January 14, 2009, p. A-11 Kevin Viramonte was born August 13, 1962 in Floydada, Texas. He was proud to call himself a Texan, though he lived most of his all too brief life in Arizona, moving here in 1966. God took him home on Friday, Jan. 9. Kevin attended Flowing Well Schools in Tucson, completing his education in 1979. As a student he was active in Demolay, as well as the ROTC where he obtained the rank of captain. As a young adult, he was the sound mixer for Jim Galliger’s band for several years. He graduated with honors from The Refrigeration School of Phoenix in 1987, and began his work in the HVAC-R field primarily in the Phoenix metro area. In 1998, he joined the family business of First Heating & Cooling, Inc. in Congress, as a technician, taking on co-ownership in 2001. Kevin loved not only the technical aspect of his work; but also cared about the clients he served. An avid student, he was always reading the industry news to keep abreast of changes. Kevin was devoted to his work but had a variety of outside interests as well. Known by many as the Rare Desert Penguin, he owned an extensive collection of penguins. Additionally, he was a gourmet chef and loved preparing meals for friends. In general he showed little interest in sports; however, he was a loyal Arizona Diamondbacks fan. When unable to attend a game, he still tried to watch it on TV or at least hear it on the radio. Winning or losing, they were still “his team.” Recently Kevin became involved with the Arizona Corsairs, a pirate re-enactment group, which he truly enjoyed. His good nature, genuine interest and beautiful smile will be greatly missed by many. Kevin was preceded in death by Darl McPherson, his beloved step-father, in 2006. He is survived by his mother Shelley Viramonte of Yarnell; his cousin Dee Rice of Congress; his soul mate Victoria Gates of Glendale; his grandmother Deeota Odam of Floydada, Texas; his great aunt Odessa Cage of Lubbock, Texas; his aunt Virginia Waits of Hale Center, Texas; his cousins all from Texas: Clay (Connie) Cage of Lubbock, Elaine (Kerry) Siewert of San Angelo, John (Jacki) Waits of DeSoto, Karen (Tony) Rastetter of San Angelo, and Jeff (Stacy) Waits of Livingston. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, Jan. 17 at Congress Community Center at 11 a.m. |
