Alda (Ranieri) Fresco

Alda Fresco, age 81, passed away Jan. 5 in Surprise, Ariz. Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 10 at noon at Wickenburg Funeral Home with interment following at Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery.

She was born May 9, 1927 in Masontown, Penn., to Adolfo Ranieri and Gemella Vinnicelli Ranieri. She was raised in Masontown and attended schools there.

Alda later moved to New Jersey where she met and married John Fresco in 1952. They moved to Arizona with their three daughters in 1961, and Alda began working at the Maricopa County Jail as a corrections officer until 1974, when she and John moved to Florida where she continued working in corrections.

After John passed away in 1990, Alda returned to Phoenix to be near family and had lived with her daughter Mary for the last 18 years. She had been active in Arizona politics and involved with the PTA. She enjoyed singing and crocheting and working her word search puzzles.

Alda was preceded in death by her husband John in 1990, and she is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Karen and Kurt Ulrich of Minnesota, Mary Dupree and Dwight Evitt of Wickenburg, and Donna Fresco of Peoria; a sister Alba Crandall of Brick, N.J.; grandchildren Anthony Armijo, James Houtz, Ryan Austin, Vincent Dupree, Debbie Lovett, Angela Corte, Samantha Holder, Erin Bostrom, and April Ferruccio; 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and loving friends.

A special thank you to the caring staff at R&R Respite of Wickenburg, Sun City Adult Day Care, and Dr. William Stonecipher and staff, Bobbi Hubbard, and Galen Stich.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home & Crematory.
