Born in Roswell, New Mexico on June 9, 1924.
Departed on Nov. 2, 2006 and resided in Cottonwood, Arizona.

Robert Leonard Lankford, 82, resident of Cottonwood, Ariz., and former resident of Flagstaff, Ariz. for many years, passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2006.

He was born on June 9, 1924 to Robert L. and Ollie (Dawson) Lankford in Roswell, New Mexico. Leonard grew up in New Mexico, Texas and Arizona.

Leonard began working road construction as a teenager with his family who were then using horses and mules. Before his retirement, he was still working in road construction. His last job was with Yavapai County, but by then he had traded in the horses and fresnos for heavy equipment.

Leonard always made friends easily and was well liked by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by two brothers, Harvey and Vernon; and three sisters, Ruth, Margaret and Irene.

He leaves behind his wife of 27 years, Norma Lankford of Sedona, Ariz.; his sons, Robert E. Lankford, wife Birgitta of Middleton, Id., David Lankford, wife Lee Ann of Cave Creek, Ariz., and Terry Lankford of Ames, Ia.; two brothers, H.R. and Denver, both of Calif.; five grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
