Helen (Guils) Schaalman

Helen Schaalman, 96, a Mass service took place on May 24, 2007, with Father Cormac, OFM of St. John Evangelist Church of Houck, Ariz., officiating. The burial will be at the private family cemetery in Manuelito, N.M.

Helen was born Feb. 15, 1911, in Bridgeport, Conn. Her parents were Ambrose and Gabriella Guils. She lived in Fairfield, Connecticut, then moved to Corpus Christ, Texas, and then to Prescott Valley, Ariz. Helen worked as a secretary for a school and law office. She was a homemaker. Helen was artistic, skilled in sewing, crafts and painting. She loved animals, flowers and birds. Helen passed away at the Prescott Valley Samaritan Center on May 19, 2007.

Survivors include son, Richard J. Schaalman of Prescott Valley; sister, Francis Gasperick of Fairfield, Connecticut; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Lyons Schaalman; son, James Ernest Schaalman; daughters, Mary Ellen Cardinel and Ann Marie Schaalman.
