Estelle Rodnite, 94, formerly of Montezuma Haven, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, at the Heritage Club Assisted Living Community in Centennial, Colo.

Born in 1914, the youngest of seven children of Casimir and Josephine Jerva of Johnstown, Pa., she and her husband, Stan, moved to Lake Montezuma in 1972, from Albertson, N.Y. Back then there were only two homes in all of Montezuma Haven. The sapling fir trees that they planted then are now 50 feet tall.

Before moving to Arizona, she married Stan on Dec. 2, 1941. They raised three children on Long Island, before Stan retired from the U.S. Post Office.

Estelle enjoyed playing golf at the Beaver Creek Resort for years and the friendships that grew out of the game. She played a mean game of gin rummy and later won many quarters playing bingo at Heritage Gardens. She never missed the harsh Long Island winters and loved the sunny warm Arizona weather.

She is survived by two daughters, Judy Rodnite McManus and Dorothy Rodnite Coddington; three grandchildren Christine VonGunden, Brian McManus and Todd McManus; and her niece Jean Sostek and nephew Bill Sostek.

Estelle in her heart never for one day forgot her son, Jim Rodnite, whose life was cut short at the age of 21 by cancer.

A Remembrance Service is planned at Heritage and interment is will be at St. Casimir's Cemetery, Johnstown, Pa., with her parents, Casimir and Josephine Jerva.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Society or to the American Heart Association.
