Joseph John Glosek of Prescott, Ariz., passed away on Friday, Feb. 20, 2009. Mr. Glosek was born Nov. 3, 1926, in Coal Township, Pa., to Joseph and Laura Glosek. He married Anna Beasley in Irvington, N.J., in 1952. Their daughter Joanne Glosek Knotts and husband Mike both preceded Joseph in death. Joseph's beautiful granddaughters, Anna and Sarah, reside in Oregon with their families. His son Joseph and wife Marian reside in Mesa, Ariz. Joseph also has a brother, John Glosek, who resides in Burlington, N.C., with his wife Peggy. Joseph and Anna have great-grandchildren, William David, Hannah and Alyssa, and a fourth, Emma Marie, expected soon. They also have step-granddaughters Stephanie and Elizabeth, and step-great-grandchildren Alfonso, Sophia, Amanda, Cijlvere and Heather.

Joseph and Anna lived in California before moving to Prescott in 1982 when Joseph retired from American Airlines where he worked as an aircraft mechanic and supervisor. His varied aeronautical career included employment with Curtiss-Wright Corp. and the experimental testing of the first generation of jet engines, working with the flamboyant air racer Roscoe Turner, Lake Central Airlines and TWA before his career with American Airlines. After retirement he was also employed as a supervisor with Dyn-Air at Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix, Ariz., ran the FBO at Cottonwood Airport and supervised maintenance for an overnight airfreight company at Falcon Field in Mesa, Ariz.

Joseph joined the Merchant Marines at age 16, sailed aboard a tanker in enemy submarine-infested waters until his true age was discovered and he was sent ashore. In 1944 he joined the U.S. Army, training with the 101st Airborne as a paratrooper, which ended abruptly as reinforcements were needed for the 320th Infantry, 35th Division, because of the "Battle of the Bulge."

Joseph was wounded March 1945 in Germany and later discharged because of his wounds for which he would later receive the Purple Heart award. He then re-entered the Merchant Marines and later entered Teterboro School of Aeronautics and began his vast aviation career. Later he earned college degrees, pursued many hobbies and interests, was a member of AOPA, EAA, and aircraft owner and pilot.

And now, after a life long love of flight and family, he has "flown west" to be with the angels.

Joseph's wife Anna and family wish to extend their gratitude to the ICU of YRMC and Las Fuentes staff for making his passing easier for the family.

A celebration of Joseph's life will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at the Free Methodist Church, 2797 Willow Creek Road, Prescott. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the heart, cancer or military/veteran organizations.
