| The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Sunday, March 5, 2006 Mavis Joann Koktavy, 69, of Prescott Valley, Ariz., born Dec. 24, 1936, in Sleepy Eye, Minn., died Thursday, March 2, 2006, in Prescott Valley. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Germaine's Catholic Church, Prescott Valley. Private cremation will be at Bradshaw Crematory in Prescott Valley. Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Bradshaw Chapel assisted the family with arrangements. ------------------------------------- The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Tuesday, March 6, 2006 Mavis loann (Laux) Koktavy, age 69, of Prescott Valley, Ariz., died Thursday, March 2,2006, in her home. Mavis was born Dec. 24, 1936, in Sleepy Eye, Minn., the only child to John and Mildred (Hammond) Laux. She attended St. Mary's for elementary and secondary school in Sleepy Eye, and at age 17 she enrolled at Mankato State College in Minnesota, earning a bachelor's degree in English and Speech. In 1954, Mavis began teaching English in Montgomery, Minn. On Oct. 7, 1961, she married Robert J. Koktavy of Le Sueur, Minn., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. They lived in Buhl, Idaho, for four years and Belvidere, Ill., for three years before returning to Le Sueur, Minn. After having three children, Mavis became a substitute teacher and then school librarian. In 2000 she retired after 24 years at the Le Sueur High School library and media center. In 2002, Mavis and her husband Bob moved to Prescott Valley. Mavis was a longtime member of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Le Sueur and then St. Germaine Catholic Church in Prescott Valley. She especially enjoyed genealogy, reading, quilting, kitties, and crossword puzzles. Mavis is survived by her husband Robert of Prescott Valley; her daughter Kathryn Koktavy of Phoenix; her son, John Koktavy of Phoenix; her son, Peter Koktavy, wifeAmanda; and her granddaughter, Clara Mavis, all of Chicago, Ill.; sister-in-law, Pat Wiese, husband Ron, of Prior Lake, Minn.; sister-in-law, Helen Koktavy of Le Sueur, Minn.; nephews and their families; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents. Services will take place at St. Germaine's Catholic Church on Tuesday, March 7, at 10 a.m. A Spring/Summer 2006 memorial service will be held at St. Anne's Cemetery in Le Sueur, Minn. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mavis' memory to Arizona Maine Coon Cat Rescue would be appreciated. Arizona Maine Coon Cat Rescue, 9123 N. 115th PI, Scottsdale, Ariz., 85259.
