Verbena L. Underwood, 85, of New River, AZ, and formerly a longtime resident of Glendale, AZ, went to be in the arms of our Lord on January 18, 2006. She was born on October 4, 1920 in San Angelo, TX to Samuel and Lena Brown. Verbena was raised in Glendale and graduated from Glendale Union High School. She was a member of the Womens' Missionary Councel of Assembly of God Church. She and her beloved husband of 66 years, Lee C. Underwood, spiritually and lovingly supported the New River Assembly of God Church where she upheld the position of Secretary/Tresurer. She is survived by her loving family, Husband Lee; her children Larn (Jenny) Underwood, Helen Strawn and daughter in law Bonnie Underwood-Vietmeier; 9 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral Service was at Green Acres Glendale Mortuary, 5830 W. Missouri Ave., Glendale, AZ. Interment Resthaven Park Cemetery, Glendale, AZ. Published in The Arizona Republic on 1/22/2006.
