Prescott Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Wednesday, March 24, 1999, p 5A c 4 Lorraine Carter Walker, 77, died Monday, March 22, 1999, in Prescott. She was born Feb 17, 1922, in Phoenix, to Cort and Stella (Cartwright) Carter. Mrs Walker was a third generation Arizonan, on her mother's side. The Cartwright family helped in the development of the canal system throughout Phoenix. Her great-grandfather, R B Carter, moved to Walnut Creek, northwest of Prescott, in 1874, and to Walnut Grove in 1882, where he started a cattle company, and the Carter family still carries on the tradition of being cattlemen. Mrs Walker graduated from Prescott High School in 1940. She attended Arizona State Teachers College (now Arizona State University). She was a member of the Arizona Cattle Growers Association, and her fondest memories and greatest joy in life was the time she spent on the Necktie Ranch. She devoted her life to her family. Survivors include her daughters, April Fletcher of Prescott and Robin Ogg of Grand Canyon; brother, Arden Carter of Kirkland; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Gwen Sheppard, on Dec 14, 1998. A celebration of Mrs Walker's life will be held at 1:30pm Thursday at the Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home, 303 S Cortez St, with Rink Goswick officiating. Private cremation will be at Bradshaw Crematory, with private inurnment at the family cemetery in Kirkland. Memorial contributiions to Mrs Walker's name may be made to YRMC Hospice, Restricted Fund, PO Box 26565, Prescott Valley, AZ 86312.
