Thomas Justin (Tom) Imbs

Thomas Justin Imbs, 91, of Paradise Valley, AZ passed away on November 2, 2006.

Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Tom was educated at St. Louis University, and earned advanced degrees in engineering and architecture from the University of Illinois and Yale University. He was awarded the Plym Fellowship for postgraduate study in Europe and the American Academy in Rome.

Tom headed his architectural firm in Buffalo, NY for 25 years before moving its headquarters to Scottsdale, AZ in 1970. There he met and married Ann Minor with whom he shared and enjoyed 25 years of marriage, caring for her during a lengthy illness until her death.

Tom was an active member of Scottsdale Rotary International, and had previously served as chief executive of the Executive Service Corps of Arizona. He is a member of Paradise Valley Country Club and Birnam Wood Golf Club of Santa Barbara, CA. He was known for his intelligence, wit, sense of humor, curiosity over a wide spectrum of interests, loyalty to friends, and his genuine concern for others.

He had previously earned his private pilot's license and in recent years, Tom had shot his age in golf, and played inspired tennis and bridge. He was a devoted father, faithful and loving husband, loyal friend to many, involved supporter of Mount Claret Retreat Center, his community, and a generous contributor to many charitable organizations.

He is survived by his loving wife Marion Thornton Imbs of Phoenix and by her daughter, Kelley Fletcher of Sante Fe, NM. Beloved father of five children from his marriage to the late Alice Kathryn Imbs of Buffalo, NY: Thomas Imbs Jr. of Williamsville, NY, Peter Imbs (Lynn) of Rohnert Park, CA, Robert Imbs (Sheryl) of Getsville, NY, Katherine White of Wilkes-Barre, PA, and Barbara Barone of Garden Grove, CA. Grandfather of Amy (Dan) Schwender, Lisa (Zac) Dankbar, Robby Imbs, Shelley Imbs, and Kierstin White. Great grandfather to Jaxson Schwender and Leah Dankbar. Predeceased by his brother, Fr. Robert Imbs (S.J.) of Kansas City, Tom is also survived by his brother Jack (MaryAnn) of Tucson, AZ and by his sister Mary (John) See of Kansas City, MO.

The family would like to especially thank Ms. Magdelena Escoto who continues to provide loving and faithful service to the families. Dad, we are thankful for having shared in your life and for enriching our lives. We love you and miss you dearly yet we are consoled in knowing you are in the loving arms of our Lord.

Visitation was held at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix, AZ. A memorial service was held at Mount Claret Retreat Center, 4633 North 54th St., Phoenix, AZ.
