John O. Vaughn

John O. Vaughn, 75, formerly of Coconino County, died Friday, July 21, 2006, at his home in Kanab, Utah.

He was born July 13, 1931, to W. L. "Bill" Vaughn and Beryl Findlay in Kanab, Utah.

He was married to Addie Lou Bunting on July 14, 1955 in the St. George Temple, and settled in Kanab.

Mr. Vaughn received his primary and secondary education in Kanab. He attended the University of Utah before receiving his bachelor of science in Agriculture at Utah State University. He began in the cattle business shortly after marrying. He served on the advisory boards of U.S. Forest Service and the BLM during this period. Mr. Vaughn also served on the Coconino County committee of the Arizona Stabilization and Conservation Service and on the Arizona Strip Advisory Board. He also was an enrolled agent with the Internal Revenue Service. He particularly enjoyed his 15 years of employment with Energy Fuels Nuclear, Inc., a company for whom he served as field administrator and as local contact person to various government agencies.

Mr. Vaughn served as a Kanab City Councilman and as a Kane County Hospital Board Member. He also served in various church positions throughout his life, including Stake Financial Auditor at the time of his death. He retired to the enjoyment of caring for his property, maintaining his equipment and keeping at least one project going at all times.

Surviving him are his wife, Addie Lou; children Kenneth (Denise), Jeff (Wendy), Belinda (Jim) Hunter, Bill (Rochelle) and Mike; sisters Beatrice Carr and Leah Dona Southworth and brother-in-law Darrell Lathim; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Rodney Perkins and sister, Oneita Lathim.


Funeral services were in the Kanab Utah South LDS Chapel. Burial in the Kanab Cemetery. Arrangements are by Mosdell Mortuary.
