Liberate (Levi) Jiron, 92 passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2006, in Prescott, Ariz. He was born July 13, 1913, in San Juan, N.M., to Luis and Crotilde (Sanchez) Jlron.

Levi met and married the love of his life, Matilde (Tillie) Sandoval while they were riding horses as young sweethearts. They were married for 69 wonderful years.

Levi and Tillie were blessed with four beautiful daughters Arabella, Jennie, Rachol, and Ernamay that they raised in Bagdad, Ariz.

Levi worked as an underground copper miner for 27 years for Cyprus Mines. When he retired, he and his wife moved to Chino Valley where they resided for 30 years. The last year Levi and Tillie lived at the Arizona Pioneer Home.

Levi's love was baseball. He played for many years for different teams around Arizona. He made several friends playing ball. We heard that Rio
Zaro sports writer, for The Daily Courier, had written an article about Levi being the oldest baseball player.

Every year Levi would say "I'm getting too old to play," but baseball season would start and he would bring out the ball and glove.

He had no living sons; his daughters spent many hours playing catch.

Levi and Tillie loved to dance. They were the Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogersof the dance floor. They were truly soul mates in dancing the polka, raising their daughters and living and loving their faith.

Levi and Tillie were parishioners of St. Francis Catholic Church in Bagdad. When they moved to Chino Valley, they helped build St. Catherine LaBoure Catholic Church.

Levi was preceded in death by four of his children, Luis, Roque, Fidelia and Nieves; his parents; two brothers, three sisters and one son-in-law.

He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Tillie, four daughters; Arabella (Albert) Jiron, of Illfeld, N.M., Jennie Yearsly of Chino Valley, Rachol (Ray) Gonzales of Mesa, Ariz., Ernamay (Robert) Konantz of Prescott; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Levi leaves with his family and many friends his loving memories.
