Chuck Verquer of Sedona passed away at his home on January 5, 2006, after a courageous seven year battle against heart disease. He lived in Colorado until he moved to Arizona in 1979. Sometime after moving here, he decided to work with people who were drug and/or alcohol addicted. He enrolled in Rio Salado College where he received degrees in Counseling and Psychology. He graduated Summa Cum Laude, received several scholastic Honor awards, and was written up in "Who's Who in American Colleges." He devoted the last twenty years of his life working with any and all who needed his guidance and support to become sober and drug free. His understanding, patience, compassion and love helped many achieve that goal, one day at a time. A steady stream of friends found their way to his home daily to pay their respects and return the love and support he had given so unselfishly. He will be missed by hundreds. He is survived by his wife, Chris of Sedona; his parents, Dorothy and Bill Horner of Chandler, AZ; his brother, Roger Verquer of Gilbert, AZ; his son Rudy Scheel of Denver; daughter, Shannon Lopez of Denver; two step-daughters, Jennifer Shores of Glendale, AZ and Susan Leerhower of California; several aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews. Chuck chose to donate his body to Science Care. A memorial service was held on Sunday, January 8, in Cottonwood at the Civic Center on Main Street. Published in the East Valley Tribune on 1/7/2006. |
