The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Tuesday, March 14, 2006 Matthew H. Mahana III, born March 29, 1920, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Matthew H. Mahana. Jr and Benita (Williams) Mahana, passed away March 2, 2006, Irvine, Calif., where he has lived since 2005, having moved from Prescott, where he resided for 13 years. He was educated in public schools in Los Angeles and Beveriy Hills, Calif., at UCLA where he served as president of Delta Tau Delta fraternity and at Harvard Business School. He served three and a half years in WWII in the Army Air Corps as a supply officer. Matt's business career included being General Manager of The Helen M. Keller Properties with interests in Los Angeles and Fresno, Calif., and El Paso, Texas; he was also founder and Managing General Partner of Maler Investment Co., whose activities included development and investment in medical office buildings, shopping centers, industrial complexes, U.S. Postal installations, various other commercial buildings, investment securities, and partnership interests in major hotel properties. He retired from active participation in business in 1997. Mr. Mahana formerly resided in El Paso, Texas, and Beverly Hills, Pebble Beach and Monterey, Calif. His memberships included: the Del Norte Club in El Paso, Texas, where he served as president; the Los Angeles Stock Exchange Club; The Los Angeles Country Club, where he was a founder of the Unplayable Liers, a prominent men's group within the club; and the Monterey Peninsula Country Club. Matt was preceded in death in 2000 by his beloved wife, Barbara. He is survived by his dearest friend and nephew, Richard A. Schiendler of Corona Del Mar, Calif.; nephew Frank J. Schiendler, Jr. of Long Beach, Calif.; niece Mrs. Leslie Anne Deweese of Honolulu, Hawaii; two stepchildren; Mrs. Judith Lynne Cantin of Fort Riley, Kan., and Kenneth Bradford of Walbridge, Ohio; and beloved cousin James G. Thompson of Skillman, N.J. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Catherine LaBoure Catholic Church in Chino Valley on March 14, 2006, at 10 a.m. A burial service will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Prescott.
