Harold (Pickle) Wesley Vick

Harold "Pickle" Wesley Vick was born on September 10, 1934 in Decorah, Iowa, to Florence and Oscar Vick.

In September of 1951, at the age of seventeen, Harold enlisted in the United States Navy. During his twenty-two year Naval career, Harold served his country honorably. His first deployment was to the Korean War in December of 1951. He also served two tours in the Vietnam War and numerous other military actions for the United States. Harold retired from the United States Navy in 1974.

After his Naval retirement, Harold and his wife Sonja (Nilsson) along with their five children, moved to Arizona. Harold worked for the Scottsdale School District for twenty-two years before retiring in 1997. Harold was a man of courage, honor and respect. He loved his wife, children and four grandchildren more than words could describe. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Harold passed away comfortably at home with his family on February 3, 2006.

Harold is survived by his loving wife of nearly forty-nine years, Sonja; his five children: Scott Vick, of Los Angeles, CA, Bradley Vick of Scottsdale, AZ, Holly Vick of Scottsdale, AZ, Heide Vick-Domzalski of Chandler, AZ, and Shane Vick-Feeney of South Kingstown, RI; also by his two sons-in-law: Brian Domzalski and Brian Feeney; one brother-in-law, Tom Halse of Waterloo, IA, and one sister-in-law, Mary Ann Vick of Cedar Falls, Iowa, as well as his four grandchildren: Leigha Vick, Riley Vick, Daniel Domzalski and Hope Feeney and one brother Herbert Vick of Mason City, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents Florence and Oscar, his two sisters: Dorothy Halse, and Irene Rose, and his five brothers: Vernon, Frank, Clayton, Robert and his twin brother, Harlen.

Services to honor Harold will take place at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona located at 23029 North Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85024, February 8, 2006. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to either Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix,k AZ 85014 or The Church of The Holy Cross, 3110 N. Hayden Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85251. Arrangements by Messinger Indian School Mortuary.
