Theda Shelley (Plumb) Adams

Posted 2013-12-31 by Pat Wilson
Theda Plumb Shelley Adams, born January 18, 1921, passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2006.

She was the beloved mother and step-mother of nine children - Jerry, Mignon, Mark A., Donald, Linda, Marla, Mark S., Raelene and Helen - thirty four grandchildren, and a growing posterity of great-grandchildren.

Theda was the daughter of Charles Merlin Plumb and Ada Barney.

She was raised in St. David, Arizona, and received her bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Arizona in 1943. Theda was a woman pioneer in the field of civil engineering and worked from the mid-1940s through the early 1960s as a civil engineer with public and private firms in Arizona, Louisiana and Tennessee.

Theda moved from California to Mesa, Arizona, in 1953 with her husband, Dr. George Edwin Shelley. When George was killed in a car accident the following year, Theda remained in Mesa to raise their six young children.

She later married, Louis J. Adams, a widower with three children, who passed away in 1987.

Theda and her family were active members of the LDS Mesa Stake. Theda was greatly loved by everyone who knew her, and her wisdom, sense of humor, and great compassion will be missed by all.

At Theda's request, no viewing or funeral services will be held. The family is holding a private graveside service. Meldrum Mortuary handled the arrangements.
