Alan Kiefer Unangst passed away on Feb. 3, 2009. Alan was born in Baltimore, Md. in 1949 and had lived in Greer for the last five years.

A true nature lover, Alan's many hobbies took him outdoors where his wonderful talent for photography produced several published photos in magazines and newspapers. A fly fisherman's fisherman, he shared his extensive knowledge with many local school children as a volunteer instructor with the Arizona Game and Fish Department. Alan's great respect for animals dictated his personal policy of "catch and release" or keep only what you will eat.

Alan's wife Carol remembers his great love of scuba diving. He attained the coveted designation of "Divemaster" and Alan and Carol traveled the world to the best dive sites where Alan would dive while Carol shopped.

Ham Radio operators worldwide remember him as WC7R as he shared news and events with them. During the Rodeo-Chedeski Fire, when communication failed they came together to provide that much needed service. Alan published an article about that event in a leading Ham radio operator's magazine.

Alan was a man of strong opinions and beliefs. A "handful" at times, close friends and family knew inside he was a tender-hearted, caring man who would do anything for someone in need and was always one of the first to call on those who suffered a loss or were facing a difficult situation. He was a true friend to many.

Alan is survived by his wife, Carol (Hurt) and his four beloved dogs, Brandy, Tanner, Sophie and Toby.

A Memorial service will take place in Greer in the spring. In lieu of flowers, Carol asks that donations be sent to the Greer Fire District, P.O. Box 242, Greer, AZ 85927, which has been so supportive during Alan's illness.

Burnham Mortuary, Eagar, handled the arrangements.
