GINN Jr., J. Allen
Dr. J. Allen Ginn, Jr., passed away on February 7, 2005, at the age of 84. Although born in Texas, he lived in Phoenix since the age of six months. He attended Phoenix Union High School and Phoenix College before finishing at the University of Southern California. At the age of 22 he graduated with his degree in medicine. Immediately upon graduation he entered the US Navy in 1942 and served until 1945 as part of the Pacific Fleet in WW II as a surgeon. He returned to his beloved Arizona and began his 60 year practice as a physician and surgeon in Phoenix.

He fondly referred to himself as "one of the last of true Family Doctors'" house calls included. Among his many achievements, his founding of the former Doctor's Hospital was his proudest. It stands today as Phoenix Children's Hospital and will forever be a tribute to the care and healing of patients in Phoenix and the state of Arizona. He was an inductee into the International School of Medicine, member of the Academy of Family Practioners, Arizona Medical Society and served on the board of the Andrus Gerontology Center at USC.

He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years Ann, his son Elliott and his daughter Carolyn. He is survived by his wife MaryAnn Soper Ginn. His children and stepchildren include Eden Ginn of Phoenix, Ashleigh Schultz of Scottsdale, J. Allen Ginn, Ill of Mooresville North Carolina, Sharon Bullock of Mooresville North Carolina and Frederick Mandrick of Scottsdale. Also his sister Jacqueline Jones of Honolulu, Hawaii and his dear double first cousin Elva Ginn Adams. He had thirteen grandchildren ... one (soon to be two) great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be sent to the J. Allen Ginn, Jr. Fellowship Fund, University of Arizona Sarver Heart Center, P.O. Box 245046, Tucson, AZ 85724-5046.

Services were held at Mercer Chapel, 1541 E. Thomas Road. Published in The Arizona Republic from 2/12/2005 - 2/13/2005.
