The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ January 9, 2008 p. A12 Calvin Nichols Calvin Coolidge Nichols - locally known as “Okie” – passed away Jan 2 at Hospice of the Valley in Surprise, Ariz. Born Feb 8, 1927 in Okemah, Okla., he moved to Casa Grande at age 15. Calvin graduated from Casa Grande high school. He played music with his band “The Westernaires” all over Arizona and as far north as Minnesota. He made an album of his music in 1968. He owned Nichols Boarding and Training Stables south of Casa Grande. Calvin was active in Pinal County Sheriff’s Posse and announced rodeos throughout Arizona, most notably Maricopa Stage Days for 27 years. The celebration of Calvin’s life has already been held. Survivors include his wife Pepper Murphy Nichols; daughters Denise Lackey of Elgin, Texas, Stacey Nichols of Azle, Texas; grandchildren Natalie Duke Carter-Dotham of Alabama, Jacob Archuleta-Chatfield of Texas, Amber Pugh Ross-Austin of Texas, Michelle Archuleta Frasier- Fort Worth Texas; great-grandchildren Reagon Neil Carter-Dothan of Alabama. |
