Margaret A. (Marge) (Gowen) Ryan

Marge passed away quietly in her sleep on Friday, February 23. She was the daughter of Bernard Gowen and Agnes Govern. The second of five children, she was born in Bayonne, New Jersey, on March 19, 1919.

She graduated from Holy Family Academy and The Katherine Gibbs School, and attended the Notre Dame School.

Marge married Edward H. Ryan of Bayonne in 1941. A longtime resident of Prescott.

Marge was active in the Claret Club of the Sacred Heart, the Smoki Museum, the Sharlot Hall Museum and the Prescott Art Docents supporting art education in local schools. A past board member and chairperson for the Phippen Art Museum, she was perhaps best known for her art and Arizona history presentations in Prescott area schools over many years. At the time of her passing, she was a resident and past resident board member at the Mountain View community in Tucson.

She loved the mountains, the desert, Native American art and people especially her family who miss her terribly.

She was predeceased by her parents; a sister, Agnes Kelley; and her husband of 42 years, Edward Ryan.

Marge is survived by a sister, Rosemary Brandli; and two brothers, Bernard and Matthew Gowen. She is also survived by five children, Colonel Joseph Ryan, USAF (ret.) of Virginia, Dr. James Ryan of Pennsylvania, Patricia Ryan of California, Dr. Gerard Ryan of Colorado and Thomas Ryan of Tucson, Arizona; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held at Saint Odi1ia's Catholic Church, Tucson, on Tuesday, 27 February.

Private internment was in Prescott, Arizona on 2 March, 2007.

Donations in her name may be sent to Casa de la Luz hospice of Tucson. Ariz., the American Cancer Society, or to local cancer support organizations.
