Joseph Liona Penrod
May 11, 1935 - April 11, 2014

Joseph Liona Penrod, affectionately known as “Joe,” 78, of Pima, entered into eternal life Friday, April 11, 2014, at his residence, with his loving family at his side.

Joseph was born May 11, 1935, to Flaurs and Grace Riddle Penrod, in Show Low. Joe was always independent, being self-employed most of his life. He owned his own sand and gravel cinder company while in Show Low.

Joe met Vanda Millett and the two were married Jan. 21, 1966, in the Mesa Arizona LDS Temple. Joe and Vanda started a family in Show Low until, for health reasons, they relocated to Pima in 1984. Once here, Joe would run several businesses related to restoring and repairing tractors and automobiles. He would also run a heavy equipment air filter reconditioning service for 12 years.

Joe had many health issues, but he never let that keep him down. He was never found complaining and worked every day of his life, except for Sundays, with a smile on his face. Joe loved and is greatly loved by his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.

Joe is survived by: his loving wife of 48 years, Vanda; his son, Jared Penrod (Samantha); his daughter, JoEllen Whitlock (Arnold); his seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild with one great-grandchild on the way; and his sister, Velma Smithson.

Funeral services for Joe will be conducted Friday, April 18, 2014, at 11 a.m., at the Fort Thomas LDS Chapel by Steve Marshall, of the Fort Thomas Ward. Concluding services will follow in the Eden Cemetery.

Family will receive friends Friday morning, April 18, 2014, from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m., at the Fort Thomas LDS Chapel Relief Society Room.

Online condolences may be offered at viningfuneralhome.com.

Arrangements are entrusted to Vining Funeral Home.
