Gary Neil Scott
(January 27, 1944 - April 15, 2014)

Gary Neil Scott, 70, of Snowflake, Arizona passed away April 15, 2014, at his home. He was born in Prescott, Arizona, to Nello and Dorothy Scott on January 27, 1944. He was the second of four children.

He lived in Chino Valley, Arizona, with his family, and attended Prescott schools through 8th Grade. As a youth in the MIA, he attended a Stake Explorer / Mia Maid activity where he met his future wife, Sally Langston. As part of the activity she was modeling a fun dress covered in buttons and she captured his heart.

To his delight, his family later moved to Flagstaff, Arizona, where she was attending high school. He attended Flagstaff High School where he lettered in football and also played in the marching band. He graduated from Flagstaff High School in 1962, and attended Brigham Young University. From 1963 – 1965 he served as a full-time missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the British Mission where he gained a better understanding of and love for the scriptures and the gospel.

After returning from his mission, Gary went to work as a logger so he could save money for school. While on the job, he suffered a serious accident that nearly took his life. He had a long and difficult recovery, but through the tender mercies of the Lord, regained his physical strength. On June 10, 1966, he was married and sealed to Sally Joan Langston in the Arizona Mesa Temple.

They began their life together in Flagstaff, Arizona, and were blessed with 5 beautiful children: Renea, Marni, Larry, Suzanne and Ryan. Each child brought new excitement, joy, and blessings into their lives. They moved to Farmington, New Mexico in 1975, and while there, celebrated the birth of their last child, Darren.

In 1980, Gary’s work took them to Snowflake, Arizona, where they currently reside. Gary and Sally have 23 wonderful grand-children and 2 great grand-children, who have continued to bless their lives with happiness and love.

Throughout his life, Gary loved serving in the church. He had various callings, but his favorites were Young Men President and Gospel Doctrine Teacher. Throughout his life, Gary loved reading, learning, and mastering new skills. He was a Master welder, journeyman electrician, Carpenter and was proficient in other trades and skills. Gary’s hallmark qualities are congeniality, generosity of heart, and love of family.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 21st at 11:00 A.M. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Snowflake Stake Center. A visitation with the family will begin at 10:00 A.M.

Intermet will be at the Mike Ramsay Memorial Cemetery, Snowflake, AZ.
