Rolland H. Wright

Rolland H. Wright, age 89, passed away April 15, 2014 in Lake Havasu City. Born in Guthrie County, Iowa, Sept. 3, 1924, to Ewing and Blanche Wright, the tenth of 11 children. He attended a country school and graduated from Guthrie Center High School in 1942.

Rolland enlisted in the U.S. Navy in July of 1943. After basic training at Camp Farragut, Idaho, he was attached to the U.S. Navy Air Station on Roi-Namur in the Marshall Islands until discharge in March of 1946.

He married Cheryl L. Covault in Audubon County, Iowa, Nov. 24, 1946. He worked as a sale representative for Metropolitan Life. Prior to moving to Lake Havasu City he lived in Anaheim, Calif., for 32 years.

He and Cheryl have been residents of Lake Havasu City for the past 25 years. He was a member of the American Legion and the Eagles.

Rolland never met a stranger and was quite the pool shark in his day. He loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved and never missed family gatherings, at times including grands and great-grands gathering from Texas, Oakland, Calif., and Nevada, sometimes numbering 30 or more attendees.

Rolland is survived by his wife of 67 years, Cheryl; children, Alan (Sylvia) of Anaheim, Calif., Jerry (Sally) of Big Bear City, Calif., Patricia (David) of Oakland, Calif., Barbara Pena of Moreno Valley, Calif., Janette (Michael) Stephens of Escondido, Calif.; nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by his parents, 10 siblings and son-in-law Larry Pena.

Donations may be made in Rolland’s name to Hospice of Havasu, 365 S. Lake Havasu Ave. Lake Havasu City, AZ 86403.
