Charles Franklin "Blue" Chasteen, 66, died at his home on April 13, 2014, due to complications from lung cancer. Blue was born April 26, 1947, in Yerington, Nev., to Arthur Warren and Alice Mae (Zumwalt) Chasteen. He was the middle of five children.

Since moving to Pendleton, Blue was employed at various locations, including Pendleton Grain Growers, Blue Mountain Asphalt, Rod Anderson Construction, Wal-Mart and D and B Supply. On occasion he helped George Diggins with cattle and farming chores.

He was proud of his military service, having served in Germany and boots on the ground in Vietnam. He was a heavy equipment operator and often spoke of having helped build roads in Vietnam during that conflict.

Blue met Sue at the Rainbow Tavern during Round Up and they were married on horseback three years later during Round Up, Sept. 8, 1990. The wedding party rode in the Dress Up parade after the ceremony in Til Taylor Park.

Blue's artistic talent was wood burning. He liked making signs for friends and neighbors, and many of his works are in businesses and residences around Pendleton.

He had a small part in the movie "Roadhouse 66" with Judge Reinhold and William Dafoe and was delighted to share the movie with friends. Before coming to Pendleton he was involved in a gunfighting club in the Kingman area known as the Magnificent Seven and liked telling stories of those adventures.

Blue was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Warren Chasteen; two sisters, Doris and Alice; and a grandson, Charles F. Chasteen III.

He is survived by his wife, Sue; mother, Alice Morris of Pendleton; son, Frank Chasteen of Kingman; brothers, Arthur (Donna) and William (Julie); and several nieces and nephews.

Contributions in memory of Blue's life may be made to Pendleton United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or Pendleton PAWS Animal Rescue Shelter, c/o Pendleton Pioneer Chapel, Folsom-Bishop, 131 S.E. Byers Ave., Pendleton, OR 97801.
