The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Wednesday, April 01, 2009 Frank Del Cid Moreno went home to be with the Lord March 29, 2009, at 7:47 a.m. He was born in Glendale, Ariz., on July 17, 1924. As a young man and a World War II veteran in 1946, he met the love of his life, Betty "Petra" Castillo. They married three weeks later. After 63 years growing together and tempering each other while raising 14 children, his wife, his companion, whom he affectionately referred to as "Shoda," preceded him in death on Oct. 24, 2008. We, the children, discussed just how long he would continue without her. It was time, Dad, to go home and be with Mom. It was time to meet the Savior you believed and espoused, the Christ you knew and did your best to instill in us. We were fortunate, Dad, to be raised in a home with boundaries and morals and with a mother and a father who loved their children and each other. We recall as children swimming in the canals, spinning tops, and playing marbles, hide and seek and Monopoly till early morning. Mom and Dad both worked very hard to provide love and necessities for all of us. We always had our home as an open house to neighbors' relatives and friends. And yes, Sunday service that sometimes seemed to go on forever. Discipline that we didn't always think was fair, but the fact is we got away with more than we were busted for. Memories of Sunday tacos, talking and laughing while taking turns at the table will never again be the same on this side, but someday, old man, we will laugh and talk together again - all of us. We love and miss you, Papa-dop-pa-lop-a-les. He is survived by his 13 children, Sophia Kiggins, Frank Moreno Jr., Ofelia Fitzgerald, John Moreno, Isabel O'Neal, Fernando Moreno, Leepie Wrisk, Teeni Moreno, Benny Moreno, Toni Marie Foster (Lulu), Patsi Moreno, Birdi Moreno and Eileen Copeland (Ninga). One daughter, Mary Ann Maute, preceded him in death on March 26, 1996. Other survivors include 42 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lupe Alcocer, Fina Henager and Rosa Campbell; and four brothers, Alejando, Diego, Arcenio, Dicky and Ernest (Neto) Moreno. Services and visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2009, at the Church at Litchfield Park, 300 N. Old Litchfield Road, Litchfield Park, Ariz., with Pastor Diego Moreno officiating. Viewing will be from 8 to 8:45 a.m. April 3 at Best West Valley Chapel, 9380 W. Peoria Ave., Peoria, 85345. Burial to follow at 9:30 a.m. at the National Memorial Cemetery, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, Ariz. Reception follows at 11:15 a.m. at First Christian Church, 6750 North 7th Ave., Phoenix, one block south of Glendale on right, 602-246-9989. Everyone is welcome and thank you for joining us in this celebration of our beloved father and dear friend's life. Information provided by survivors. |
