Beverly Portis was born Nov. 17, 1927, in Bakersfield, Calif., to Bill and Maybell Carter.

At the age of two weeks, the family moved to Arizona when her father took a job at the Grand Canyon to help build trails. After two years at the canyon they moved to the Congress area where Beverly attended grade school and graduated from eighth grade.

Beverly attended Prescott High School and it was in Prescott that she married Rowe Portis in 1944. Rowe was with the 45th infantry division and was leaving for Europe and WWII; they had two sons, Rowe (Nick) Portis Jr. and Richard (Rick) Portis. Both preceded her in death.

After the war, Rowe and Beverly lived in Wickenburg for a short time before Rowe took a job with E.J. Trucking Co. in Hillside. They both worked for the trucking company and retired together in the early 1990s. They were both still living in Hillside when Rowe passed in 1998.

Beverly continued living in the same house that they built in the mid-'60s. Then in 2007 she relocated to My Father's Retirement Ranch in Wickenburg.

Beverly passed away on March 21, 2009, and was rejoined with her family, which she missed very much. She is survived by grandsons Richard and Jonathan; granddaughter Rebekah; and two great-grandchildren; sister Nancy (Jim) Cameron; nieces, nephews and ex-daughter-in-law Dorothy Hargis.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday, April 3, 2009, at the First Presbyterian Church in Wickenburg.

Arrangements by David's Desert Chapel.
