A Mass of Christian burial for Robert F. Davis Jr., or “Junior” as he was lovingly known by many, 89, of Clifton, will be celebrated Saturday, July 26, 2014, at 10 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church by Rev. Martin Atanga Baabuge. Committal will follow in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.

Bob was born in the small village of Robeline, La., on Feb. 6, 1925, the son of Joella Cordova and Robert Davis Sr. He grew up in the small farming community, working on the 80-acre family farm with his father and brother. Following his formal schooling, Junior joined the United States Army, serving in the 324th Infantry Regiment of the 44th Infantry Division. He honorably served as a cannoneer throughout the European Campaign in France and Germany. In 1946, following the victory in Europe, Bob returned home to Louisiana.

As many veterans were looking for and obtaining work, he came West to Arizona. In 1950, he boarded a Greyhound bus and shortly thereafter arrived in Clifton. Bob soon obtained work at Phelps Dodge Mining Corporation in Morenci, where he worked as a locomotive engineer. One day while visiting in the mercantile, he met Lupe Olivas. They were later married.

Together, Bob and Lupe began their journey with their new family. In mid-1970s, Lupe became ill and was diagnosed with cancer. She passed away in 1976. Following her passing, Bob continued to be the best father that he could be with the help of extended family. He later remarried to Lucy Reyes.

Bob enjoyed being in the out-of-doors and taking in a good cowboy western movie. Most of all, he loved being with family, especially his children and grandchildren. He was a gentle and kind man. Bob entered into eternal rest Saturday evening, July 19, 2014, at his residence, with his loving family gathered round about him.

Bob is survived by: his wife, Lucy, of Clifton; seven children, Evon Alexander, of Tempe, Gabriel M. Nunez (Thais), of Tucson, Ronald DeBlasi, of Clifton, Liz Smith (Martin), of Mesa, Denise Williams (Scott), of Billings, Mont., Robert DeBlasi (Erika), of Tucson, and Cathy Nunez, of Mesa; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Bob was predeceased by: his wife, Lupe O. Davis; a stepdaughter, Denise; his mother, Joella Davis; his father, Robert Davis Sr.; and his brothers.

The family will receive friends Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until 9:45 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Online condolences may be offered at viningfuneralhome.com.

Arrangements are entrusted to Vining Funeral Home.
