Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Posted: Thursday, July 31, 2014 - John D. Munnell, 85, passed away July 24, 2014. John was born to the late Vera and John Munnell Sept. 26, 1929, in Los Angeles. John and his wife Donna moved to Lake Havasu City in 1989. They were married for 64 years before Donna’s passing in August 2013. John, also known as “Uncle Grump,” was an engineer for the Arcadia Fire Department for 34 years. He worked with the U. S. Forest Service and was a Boy Scout leader with his boys. He appeared in some movie productions and music videos as well. John was a fan and admirer of old fire trucks. He enjoyed boating, water skiing, camping and playing cards with friends. He was a member of both the Lake Havasu City Elks and Arcadia Elks Lodges. John is survived by his sons, Michael Munnell of Riverside, Calif. and Sean Munnell of El Monte, Calif. and daughter, Cheryl Brodie of Lake Havasu City. John also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 22 great- grandchildren. Services for John will take place today at Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home. Visitation starts at 9 a.m., services at 10 a.m. and a graveside service immediately following at Lake Havasu Memorial Gardens. Chaplin Jimmy Ortega will be officiating. Military honors will be rendered by VFW Post #9401 and American Legion Post #81. Services were placed in the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home & Crematory.
