Lois Jane Newman
February 10, 1926 - July 23, 2014

Born February 10, 1926 in Henderson Kentucky to William Houston Watson and Kathleen Mae Watson (Beard). Jane passed on to her Lord and Savior on 23 July, 2014 in Tucson, Arizona.

Jane attended Barrett High School in Henderson.

Jane married Otis Eugene Newman on Christmas Eve, 1948 as witnessed by Gene's sister and her husband, Mr. & Mrs Harold Gilmore. She raised three beautiful children and traveled throughout the south and west United States with her husband and family for during Gene's career in the U.S. Air Force. Jane and her children finally settled in Tucson, Arizona in 1971.

Jane enjoyed a joyous and spirited childhood with her sister and three step-brothers and spent many times learning how to hunt with her father whom she adored.

Learning many sewing techniques from her step-mother, Blonnie Newman (Spencer), Jane first worked in a clothing factory where she recruited some of her high school classmates to help with sewing tasks. She eventually worked for her father in the local meat packing business.

As a young woman, her favorite activities included dancing in the evenings at the Owensboro, Kentucky clubs with her many friends.

Upon coming to Tucson, Jane began a career in hospital services working long hours as a Nutritional Service Technician for the many patients at St. Joseph’s Hospital while attend college courses in stenography and typing. Her favorite responsibility at the hospital included delivering meals to “3 South” were all the new mommies and babies where becoming accustomed to each other.

In her retirement years, Jane most enjoyed sewing, the challenges of wordsearch puzzles, thrift store shopping and moving her furniture around her apartment.

Jane’s generosity led her to spend her very modest income at local second-hand stores for trinkets and household items only to give them to her friends and neighbors to ensure their comfort and convenience. This was a common practice for which she was loved and admired.

Jane was pre-deceased by her sister Dorothy Francele Watson Tucker; her step-brothers James Kenneth Spencer and Robert Earl Spencer.

Jane is survived by her step-brother, Gene Spencer; her sister-in-law, Mary-Louise Spencer, her daughter, Linda Joyce Foley (husband Robert), her sons Garry Wayne Newman (wife Rose) and Danny Eugene Newman, her grandchildren Robert Joseph Foley III (wife Juanita), David Ryan Foley (wife Sarah), Nicholas Adam Foley (wife Joyce), Brianna Rae Newman, Ryan Maximillion Newman, and her four great grandchildren, Robert Michael Motisko, Robert Joseph Foley IV, Alistair Michael Foley, and Jaxson Kai Foley.

The Family will hold a small in-home celebration-of-life for Jane’s friends and relatives Saturday, 9 August, 2014.
