Mrs. Henry Suder, Pioneer Of Prescott, Passes at 84

Mrs. Henry J. Suder, 84, member of an early-day Prescott family and well-known women's club leader, died last night at the Yavapai County Hospital where she had been a patient for the pas two and a half years.

Her husband had preceded her in death on the same day, April, 15, exactly a year ago.

He served as superintendent of the county hospital from 1930 through 1934, being assisted in his work by Mrs. Suder.

She was born October 24, 1874, in Junction City, Kans., and came to Prescott in 1876 with her mother, Mrs. Daniel Dwyer, to be with her father, Daniel Dwyer, who had come to Prescott by stagecoach two years earlier.

She spent her childhood and girlhood in Prescott and married Henry J. Suder on Jan. 1, 1901 at the home of Mrs. Samuel Hill. The Suders celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1951.

They were the parents of a son, Charles H. Suder, who now lives in Phoenix with his wife, Kathryn. He is District Office Manager of Safeway Stores, Arizona District.

Mrs. Suder was a member of Western Star Rebekah Lodge No. 9. She was a past president of the Arizona Rebekah Assembly and was awarded the jewel of the degree of chivalry in recognition of her outstanding work for the order and her community service. She was also a past president of the Monday Club and a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church and St. Mary's Guild of the church. She was active in civic affairs until her illness.

In addition to her son of Phoenix, survivors include a grandson, Robert L. Suder, Littleton, Colo., and three great grandsons and one great granddaughter. Local relatives are George S. Hill, a nephew, and Mrs. Louise Geimer, a niece. There are also three nieces in Phoenix, the Mesdames, Dorothy Haire, Gladys Fleming, and Marjorie Hepworth.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church by the Rev. David C. Trimble, rector. They will be followed by a Rebekah graveside service at burial in the family plot of the IOOF Cemetery.

Ruffner Funeral Home is handling funeral details.
