Lamont J. Redford
November 16, 1950 - August 20, 2014

Lamont Jay Redford, devoted husband, father, and son, of Thatcher, passed away early Wednesday morning, August 20, 2014.

He was born in Los Angeles, California on November 16, 1950. Lamont graduated from Miami High School in 1968 and immediately began attending Eastern Arizona Junior College where he met Lillian Kay Bryce. In response to the Vietnam draft, Lamont joined the Navy in 1970 and finished Boot Camp in 1971 with Honors. After giving Kay two weeks to plan their wedding, they were married on March 12, 1971 in the Thatcher L.D.S. Church Street Chapel.

Lamont proudly served his country for 23 years, 5 months, and 13 days - he could even provide the hour and minute count. He retired in 1993 after reaching the rank of Master Chief; the highest rank a non-commissioned officer can attain. Upon retirement, Lamont and Kay returned to Arizona, moving into a home they had purchased on Church Street across from where they were married.

The Redford home was full of music of all kinds. Lamont taught himself how to play the guitar, often creating songs for his children and harmonizing with them during church services. He also loved to cook; spending hours in the kitchen creating and improving recipes he found from all over the world.

In later years he planted a garden in the back of his house, using its produce for cooking and canning. His greatest joy, however, was found in spending time with his grandchildren. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the Boy Scouts of America program, crossing over at least 50 kids from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts.

Lamont is survived by: his wife of 43 years, Kay Redford, of Thatcher, his three children LaRae, Jason and Joanna; his mother, Joanna Redford, of Thatcher, five brothers, and 11 grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by: his father, Glen J. Redford, of Miami; and his father- and mother-in-law, Ebbie and Ara Bryce, also of Thatcher.
