Roberta (Romero) Urquidez

Roberta R. Urquidez, of Safford, quietly entered into eternal rest at her residence Thursday evening, August 21, 2014, with her husband, Alberto and her children at her bedside. She was 80.

Roberta was born June 7, 1934, in Safford, the daughter of Paula and Jose Romero. She grew up in both Safford and Morenci. She devoted her time and talents to the Lord and the local community.

Roberta taught Religious Education and was the Office Coordinator at St. Rose of Lima church for over 40 years. She also served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a member of the Messengers of Mary and the Care Center Angels.

Roberta was awarded the Pride of Safford Certificate of Appreciation in October of 2002 for serving the seniors at the Safford Care Center (The Haven of Safford). She had a special love for young children and a passion for teaching and cooking.

Although she devoted much of her life in service, it was her family that she provided her undivided attention and unconditional love to.

Roberta leaves to mourn: her husband, of 55 years, Alberto, of Safford; seven children, Joe Cabrera (Lydia), of Glendale, Mark Cabrera (Michael McDonald), of Kansas City, Missouri, Mirna Urquidez, of Gilbert, Clarissa Urquidez, of Gilbert, Irma Urquidez-Chavez (Frank), of Thatcher, Norma Urquidez-Abbl (Ron), of Goodyear and Alberto J. Urquidez (Kasey), of Tucson; one brother, Edward Leyva (Donna) of Illinois; fourteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild on the way.

Roberta was predeceased by: her son, Karl Cabrera; her mother, Paula Cordova Romero; her father, Jose Romero and four siblings.
