Charles (Chuck) Edward Tilson Sr., 76, died at his home Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, in Peoria. He was born July 29, 1938, in Dallas, Texas, to Orval and Edith Tilson, the second of four children. He had three sisters, Edith Marie Webb (deceased), Barbara Ann Cordray and Sharon K. Porter.

Growing up in Borger, Texas, he served three years in the Army. From there he moved to Denver, Colo., where he met the love of his life, Cynthia Kay. The couple married June 2, 1962, in Denver, Colo. They returned to Borger to start their family. Charles was the father of three beautiful children, Kathy Jo (Vinny) DeVito, Charles Edward (Hazel) Tilson Jr. and Amanda K. (Bill) Muder.

Charles was a retired member of UA Local 469 as a pipefitter-welder. Other jobs included being a welding instructor for Northland Pioneer College in Holbrook and a real estate broker in White Mountain Lake. Aside from work, Charles was a 32nd degree mason, a member of the Sabar and El-Zaribah Shrine Club, Elks Lodge 2090, the VFW and a scout leader.

One of the things Charles enjoyed the most was being a pilot. Flying gave him the opportunity to take his family on adventures, including a trip to Wichita, Kan. While there, he toured the Beechcraft Factory where he flew a Bonanza V Tail right off the assembly line. This was a major highlight in his life to have been given such a rare opportunity.

Charles had numerous hobbies, such as hunting, fishing, photography, bowling, building model airplanes, shooting, dirt bikes, skiing, boating, jeep trail riding, golfing, gemstones, metal detecting and much more.

He never met a challenge he couldn’t beat. He was a great friend to many. There was never a stranger in his life, and he was there for anyone anytime. He will be deeply missed by many.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy; three children, Kathy Jo DeVito, Charles Edward Tilson Jr., and Amanda K. Muder; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Ann Cordray and Sharon K. Porter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Per Charles’ request, there will be no services.
