Ernest J. Travis, 71, of Maxwell died of pneumonia Tuesday in Mesa, Arizona. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell. Burial, with military rites, will be at Maxwell Cemetery.

Mr. Travis was born in Winterset, Madison County, to Ernest and Grace(Campbell)Travis on March 19, 1927 and moved to Maxwell in 1949. He was the owner of Travis Realty and Insurance Co. and had served in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of Maxwell United Methodist Church, Maxwell Lions Club, Air Stream Club, Masonic Lodge, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, Arnes Shrine Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. He was also a former Maxwell volunteer fireman.

He was married to Donna Frey, who survives him.

He is also survived by three sons, David of Lawrence, Kan., Wade of Bondurant and Mark of Maxwell; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
