Mohave Valley Daily News, Mohave Valley, AZ - Published in Mohave Daily News Online from Aug. 22 to Aug. 29, 2014 - Doris Helen Bransom Stubblefield Anderson, age 88, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 17, 2014, with family by her side. Quite a woman, quite a character, quite a wit. Doris, aka Mickey, was born on March 3, 1926, in Belleview, Texas, to Effie May Tanner and Richard Lewis Bransom. Doris was the tenth child of eleven children. She was the last surviving member of her generation of Bransoms, an especially strong, loving and resourceful family clan of Texans. In her early years, Mickey went to school in Belleview, Texas. Later she and her family moved to Plainview, Texas, where her first grade teacher mindfully handed her a tambourine to play in class. This was an instrument that she appreciated and was capable of playing, and later encouraged her daughter, Linda to take lessons. Doris was a talented dancer and taught her family, and especially her daughter, the love of music and dance. Later, she and her family relocated to Vivian, Texas. Here Doris missed a lot of school due to illness caused by frequent earaches. Untreated early on, the loss of hearing would plague her for life. Life on the ranch was hard, picking cotton, living off hardscrabble. Effie was a hard worker, but struggled to provide for her family on the unforgiving land. Eventually, the family loaded up Uncle Chuck's '38 and set out for California. In California, Effie found work in a board and care home, and later bought the rest home in El Monte, Calif., and cared for elderly women. Doris helped out with the care of the 13 ladies. About that time Doris met a good looking Marine, and on December 18, 1945, Doris Bransom and Everett Stubblefield were officially married. Everett was sent directly overseas to serve in the war and was gone for 33 months. During this time, Doris continued working at her mother's Rest Home. (She later worked in the Sacred Heart Rectory in Covina, Calif.) When Everett returned home from the war, the young couple lived with family in the San Gabriel and Baldwin Park areas. Linda was born 9 months after Everett sailed into port in San Diego. She was called the Camp Pendleton baby. Eventually, Dennis joined the family 12 years later, and Mickey and Everett raised their family in the small house Everett remodeled and built in Baldwin Park, until moving to Bullhead City in 1972. In 1981, Everett passed away suddenly, ending their 36 years of marriage. On January 16, 1983, Doris Stubblefield married Paul Anderson, and remained married until Paul's death in 1998. Paul and Mickey enjoyed a lively social life and were active in the local VFW. Paul served as Chaplain; Doris was member of the Ladies'Auxiliary. At age 71, Doris was very proud of obtaining her GED with honors, without studying. She went through the commencement ceremonies in Kingman. Never a bragger, she was proud of earning the diploma after so many years. She also loved her "hometown" of Bullhead City. Many of the friends Paul and Mickey enjoyed during those years have gone, and Doris missed the days of camaraderie shared with her many friends and pals. Her pride in her children and grandchildren was shown in her expressions of love and interest toward them. Doris was a Bullhead City resident since 1972. Thereafter, she lived with and was in the care of her daughter Linda, and son-in-law Bob, in Alta Loma, Calif. until the time of her death. Mickey is survived by her children Linda Jeanette (and Bob) Combe and Dennis Wayne (and Cathy) Stubblefield; she is also survived by five grandchildren and their spouses: Lisa (Brian), Bobby (Shaye), Ryan (Larae), Janet (Matt), and Brad. She cherished her nine great- grandchildren: Cody, Alexa, Nick, Jackson, Mia, Delaney, Braelyn, Kannan, and Aspen, and they adored her.
