Mary Goodwin Passes On, Pioneer Here

Mrs. Mary E. Goodwin, 66, daughter of Dennis A. Burke, who was on of the co-owners of the Burke - Hickey hotel, later, the St. Michael's, died here Thursday.

Mrs. Goodwin, who resided at 147 N. Marina St., was born at Ft. Whipple Apr. 11, 1890. Her father owned half interest in the Burke - Hickey hotel, which burned to the ground in the fire of 1900, and was rebuilt and opened under the present name. The Burke's were well acquainted with the Fiorellio LaGuardia family when the lived at Whipple.

She graduated from the St. Joseph's Academy in 1910 and had long been active in all the affairs of the Sacred Heart Parish hand and worked hard in the construction of the parochial school. From 1915 through 1931 she lived in Santa Fe., N. M.

Club activities included the past grand regency of Catholic Daughters of America, past presidency of the Altar Society and membership in the Elks Ladies and the Friendly Club.

Her son, Earl Goodwin, who died in 1948, was the owner of Ensminger's Drug store at the time of his death.

Other survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Mary Ann Silva, and a son, George Goodwin, four grandchildren, John P., George B., and Mary Margaret Goodwin and Michael E. Silva, all of Prescott; a brother, Beverly Burke, Phoenix, owner of the Medical Center pharmacy there; and a sister, Mrs. Anna Kraemer, Washington, D.C.

Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Ruffner Funeral home. Requiem mass will be at 9 a.m., Monday with Father Nuevo., CMF, officiating, at the Sacred Heart church.

Burial will be in the family plot of Mountain View cemetery.
