| The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, Arizona Wednesday, October 29, 2014 Frederick Kauders died in Wickenburg on Oct. 21, 2014. He was born in Prague, Czech Republic, in 1919. After graduating from Second State College, he attended Charles University in Prague and the Sorbonne University in Paris. During World War II, in 1939 and 1940, he served in the Czech Army in France and the French Army and earned a Croix de Guerre with Star for combat action in June 1940. After the fall of France he was sent with the French Army to Martinique. He came to the U.S. in October 1940 and settled in Salem, Mass. In 1941, he and his brother, Erick, founded Craig Systems Co, in Danvers, Mass. Following Pearl Harbor he volunteered for the U. S. Army where he served overseas in an intelligence Unit from 1942 to 1945. He married Anita C, Hajkova in 1942 in Salem and has two children, Richard F. Kauders of Kearney, Neb., and Deborah K. Spangler of Boston. After moving to Beverly Farms, Mass., in 1957 he became an ardent sailor and was secretary of the Manchester (Mass,) Yacht Club for 10 years. His wife died in 1967, and in 1969 he married the former Constance S. Hodges of Beverly Farms who died in 1979. In 1982 he married the former Patricia Crockett and moved to Manchester, Ind. In 1990 they established winter residency in Wickenburg, where he enjoyed golf as a member of Los Cabelleros Golf Club and playing bridge in several groups. In 2013 shortly before the death of his wife Patricia (“Pippa”) they decided to make Wickenburg their permanent home. In 1972 he retired as Chairman of Craig Systems, lnc. and Chairman of LeFebure Corporation of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. After his retirement he served as director of several manufacturing and service corporations. He was active in several charitable activities on the North Shore of Boston. He was chairman of the Board of Trustees of Northeast Health Systems and past chairman and treasurer of the Beverly Hospital, and was also past president and trustee of the North Shore Children’s Hospital and director of the Danvers-Salem Area Board for Mental Retardation. He was a director of the Chewonki Foundation of Wiscasset, Maine, and a past trustee of the McCarthy Family Foundation Charity Fund. He was active in the Episcopal Church, served on several committees and was past vestryman and treasurer of St. John’s Episcopal Church of Beverly Farms, Mass. “He is survived by his two children (Richard Kauders and Debbie Spangler), devoted step-children and their families. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 357 West Yavapai Street, Wickenburg on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 11 a.m. Donations in his memory can be made to the Chewonki Foundation, 485 Chewonki Neck, Wiscasset, ME 04578; the Beverly Hospital, 85 Herrick St., Beverly, MA 01915; or the Wickenburg Community Hospital Foundation, 520 Rose Lane, Wickenburg, AZ 85390.
