| Norvel Owens Mortuary, Flagstaff, Arizona Shana Victoria Watahomigie (April 3, 1973 - November 16, 2014) Shana Victoria Watahomigie was born April 3rd, 1973, in Tuba City, raised in Grand Canyon. Shana was a loving mother, daughter, friend, Beastie Boys enthusiast, Havasupai tribe member, and river guide. She considered the canyon, the river, and Havasupai falls her home. Shana was the first Native American (Havasupai) woman to become a river runner, loving each stroke of the paddle and life in the water she ran. River guiding was one of the biggest accomplishments and joys in Shana's life; it was something that filled her with life. It also gave her the opportunity to work with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and renowned anthropologist Wade Davis in an IMAX water conservation film, along with her daughter Cree. She is survived by her daughter Cree Watahomigie, mother Anna Watahomigie, and brother Nathaniel Watahomigie. Her greatest love was her 16 year old daughter and best friend Cree. They were constantly exploring the California coast, swimming, and trying out new theme parks. Laguna Beach was the one place they always maintained peace, and in a way was their sanctuary. Her daughter will miss her greatly, with the goal of traveling to Hawaii, the one place they didn't have a chance to explore. Shana had begun her journey into the spirit world early in the morning on November 16th, peacefully in her sleep, joining beloved family members Rebecca, MistyBlue, Victor, and Blue Watahomigie on the other side. There will be no other soul on earth like Shana, or loved like Shana. Family and friends will forever miss her and keep her spirit alive in the canyon, river, and Havasupai falls. Services will be Friday, November 21st 6:30pm at the Grand Canyon Community Building. Interment will be Sunrise Saturday, November 22nd at the Pioneer Cemetery, Grand Canyon, Arizona.
