Jack J. Sims, 91, longtime resident of Camp Verde, passed away November 18, 2014, with his family by his side. Jack was born March 04, 1923 to Earnest Frank and Nona Chloe Sims (Pruitt) in Graham Oklahoma.

Jack enlisted in the Navy in 1941, serving in the Marshal Islands. In 1947 he married his beautiful bride Maxine Blackstone.

Jack was self employed and sold pipe and steel all over Arizona. His work can be seen all over the Verde Valley such as the post-masters wrought iron fence, the Brown's horse corral on Pecan Lane and a light post on main street. He even produced the steel base of a local artist's statue that now resides in the Rockefeller Center.

Jack was a humble man that didn't need much in life to be happy and content. As long as he had a dollar in one hand and a fishing pole in the other, he was in heaven. One of Jack's passions was telling stories of his experiences during the Depression and in WWII.

As anyone who had the privilege of hearing his stories would attest, Jack would beam with pride and come alive as he shared stories of riding trains, working in the mess hall in WWII, and the bravery of fellow soldiers.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Sims, two daughters, Debbie Renee Sims (Owsley) and Jackie Rae Sims.

He is survived by his children, Glenda G. Cummings (Lucky), Judy A. Nelson (Larry), Ron Sims (Janice) and Terry L. Langford (Don) as well as grandchildren, Jason, Mike, Jacqui, Kelly, Kevin and Melissa and 12 great grandchildren.

Services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon) located on 5th Street and Arnold in Camp Verde, AZ at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday November 22, 2014 and following will be a Military burial at Clear Creek Cemetery and luncheon back at the church following graveside service.
