Marcella (Sally) (Brinkman) Schmidt

Marcella "Sally" B. Schmidt, 94, of Leipsic, died 5:35pm Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at The Meadows of Putnam Acres. She was born April 18, 1919 in Cloverdale to the late Charles and Clara (Meyer) Brinkman. On November 15, 1944, she married Herman W Schmidt who died October 23, 2000.

Marcella is survived by two daughters: Carol Berger of Leipsic and Marie (Larry) Buss of Kalida; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; a brother: Walter (Virginia) Brinkman of Wickenburg, Arizona; and three sisters: Agnes Morman, Helen Wischmeyer and Henrietta Wischmeyer all of Ottawa. She is preceded in death by a grandson: John Berger; great-granddaughter: Samantha Kuhlman; a son-in-law: Bill Berger; 2 brothers and sisters-in-law: Richard (Bea) Brinkman and Melvin (Engeleen)Brinkman; 3 sisters and brothers-in-law: Florence (Gilbert) Maenle; Viola and Eugene Kuhlman; Magdalen (Richard) Kruse and 3 brothers-in-law: Harold Morman, James Wischmeyer and Harold Wischmeyer.

Marcella retired in 1983 from the meat department at the Leipsic IGA Store. She was the owner of the former Schmidt's Market in Ottawa. She was a member of St Mary's Catholic Church, Leipsic and the Catholic Ladies of Columbia. She was the greatest mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and loved by them all. She loved to bake, especially cookies for them when they came to visit. You never left Grandma's house hungry, she always made sure you were well fed!

A Mass of Christian Burial will begin 10:30am Friday, December 6, 2013 at St Mary's Catholic Church, Leipsic with Fr. George Wenzinger officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8pm Thursday at Love-Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Leipsic where there will be a rosary by the Catholic Ladies of Columbia at 8pm.

Memorials may be given to: St Mary's School, Building Fund or Putman County Hospice.
