Chester (Chet) Fuller of Wickenburg, passed away Sept. 3. He was 88.
He was born July 14, 1913 in Long Valley, Ariz. of a pioneer Mormon family who settled the towns of Pine and Tonto Basin. He was one of eight children whose parents were Ross and Katherine Fuller, all of whom are deceased.

Chet graduated from Phoenix Union High School and received his master's degree from NAU. He was an outstanding athlete and in later years, received the special honor of being inducted into the NAU Hall of Fame on two occasions.

His first job in the field of education was in Mayer, where he taught several grades and coached all sports. From there he went on to the Buckeye school system.

He served in the Navy as lieutenant aboard the USS Walke during World War II. After his discharge from the service, he became interested in agriculture and spent many years producing cotton, vegetables and finally he realized his lifelong dream and became a cattle rancher. His cattle operations included the Litchfield Park Ranch near Luke Field, Ft. Valley Ranch out of Flagstaff and Palmerita Ranch, part of which was taken over by the federal government and now forms a portion of Alamo Lake.

Chet's interests were many and varied. He was one of the original developers of Lake Mohave Resort at Katherine Walsh. Chet was an avid sportsman and especially enjoyed the game of golf, and his claim to fame in that sport was the thrill of making a hole-in-one on four occasions. He resided in Litchfield Park for many years and served as president of the Wigwam Men's Golf Club. He also was a charter member of the Los Caballeros Golf Club, and served on the board of directors there. He was a lifetime member of the Nature Conservancy. Wickenburg has been his home for the past 30 years and he was one of the original owners of the AmericInn Motel.

He is survived by his wife, of 55 years, Maxine; his son and daughter-in-law Rick and Jennifer Fuller of Leona Valley, Calif.; daughter-in-law Mary Ann and grandchildren Jenny and Ross of San Diego, Calif.; sister-in-law Rosemary Fuller of Litchfield Park; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A son, Ronald, preceded him in death.
