Naomi Stoken, age 88, born Aug. 2, 1916, in Chicago, Ill., died peacefully in her sleep at home, Feb. 4, 2005.

Naomi stayed at home to raise her two children before beginning a secretarial career in Chicago, then in Phoenix. After retiring and moving to Prescott in 1978, Naomi enjoyed volunteering in local organizations. Naomi, with her husband, organized the Prescott Litter Lifters in 1981. They were founding members of Temple B?rith Shalom. They adopted a section of Highway 69 as volunteers with the state highway department?s roads cleanup program.

She loved being outdoors, hiking with the Prescott Outings Club for many years. She visited every corner of Arizona, insisting, ?Arizona is the most beautiful place in the world.? In her last year, unable to go outdoors, she enjoyed sitting by her window watching the birds in her backyard feeder.

Naomi is survived by her husband of 60 years, Norman; son, Ben (Lisa) Stoken of Prescott; daughter, Ann Stoken of Niles, Ill.; grandson, Joe (Dorna) Stoken and great-grandchild to be of Aptos, Calif.; and granddaughter, Heather, who is now teaching school in Anchorage, Alaska. She is also remembered by her long-time friend and former co-worker in Chicago, Sue Schantz. Naomi?s loving family wishes she had lived long enough to meet her great-grandchild. They are thankful for the many happy years they enjoyed with her.

A private family memorial will be held at a later date.

The family suggests donations in Naomi?s name be made to the YRMC Hospice Restricted Fund, P.O. Box 26565, Prescott Valley, Ariz.

The Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. Private cremation was done by Bradshaw Crematory of Prescott Valley.
