On April 14, 2009, at age 65, Ruth Ann Willson died in Prescott, Ariz. She is survived by Larry, her husband of 46 years; children Laura, Lisa and Charley; five grandchildren ranging from age four to 22; along with her father, Mark MacKinney; her brothers, Mark, Ted and Tom; and sisters Kathy Bennett and Judy DeChello.

Ruth grew up outside Chicago, saw all three of her children graduate from Hamden High while living in Connecticut and moved to beautiful Prescott in 1993. During the latter 35 years of her life, she drove thousands of schoolchildren to and from schools, on field trips, and to after-school activities on her big, yellow school bus. She loved the community of school bus drivers, the children and their families, and watching her charges grow from kindergarteners to high school graduates.

Diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2003, Ruth spent the remainder of her life as she spent the first 60 years, by living it fully. She traveled to Ireland, Italy and Paris, and gave her children and grandchildren an unforgettable week of fun in Disneyworld. She loved driving the bus, gardening in her yard, and eating seafood in Mystic, Connecticut. Most recently, she enjoyed the celebration of her eldest grandchild's marriage in March.

On Saturday, April 25, 2009, at 10 a.m., a memorial service will take place at the chapel at the Prescott Salvation Army, 237 South Montezuma Ave. A brief reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Salvation Army.
