Margaret S. Nolan, age 89, passed away on April 6, 2009, in Prescott, Ariz. She was born on April 28, 1919, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Lawton and Flora Smith.

Margaret married Thomas Nolan in 1946. They lived in Chicago from 1948 to 1950 while Tom was training to become a court reporter. Upon Tom's graduation, they moved to Riverside, Calif., and resided there until 1989. Margaret's greatest joy was the adoption of her and Tom's son, Timothy, in 1954.

During her years in Riverside, Margaret enjoyed spending her summers surfing the beaches of Southern California and backpacking in the High Sierras with Tom and Timothy. She was also a frequent passenger on the back of her and Tom's BMW motorcycle as they traveled through the 10 Western states and Canada.

In 1989, Margaret and Tom moved to Prescott. They joined the First Congregational Church where Margaret enjoyed many years of volunteer work.

During the last two years of Margaret's life she resided at Pleasant Valley Care Home, owned and operated by Lisa Bason. Lisa and her team of devoted and loving caregivers provided Margaret with exceptional care during this difficult time and were a great comfort to Tom and her family.

Margaret was preceded in death by her son, Timothy, and brother Alfred. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Tom; her sister Georgeann (Bill) Henricks; several nieces and nephews; and her goddaughter, Michelle Sherrill.

Burial will take place in Riverside, Calif.

Hampton Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
