Paula (Leyva) Carrillo

Paula Leyva Carrillo, age 89, passed peacefully from this life on April 10, 2009, in Prescott, Ariz. She was born April 1, 1920, in Febrero, Ariz., a small lumber camp between Prescott and Williams, to Dionisio Bustos and Maria (Trujillo) Leyva.

At a very young age, Paula moved to Prescott and was raised with her 10 siblings. She married Rito Carrillo, a WWII veteran, after the war and started a family in Prescott that would grow to include three boys and a girl. She worked as a housekeeper for the Hassayampa, St. Michael's and Prescottonian Hotels, as well as for private families. She loved gardening and being outdoors.

Paula is survived by her loving children, Alex (Rosemary) Carrillo, Henry (Yvonne) Carrillo, Rita (Marc) Burhans and Michael Carrillo. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Julian Leyva.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Rito.

A visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 16, 2009, at Heritage Memory Mortuary, 131 Grove Ave., Prescott, followed by recital of the rosary.

A Mass of Christian Burial in honor of Paula will be at 10 a.m., Friday, April 17, 2009, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 150 Fleury Ave., Prescott. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Mountain View Manor Nursing Home, 1045 Sandretto Drive, Prescott, Ariz., 86305, Attn: Activity Director/Coordinator.

Heritage Memory Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
