Mary Lux Northrup
December 9, 1917 - January 11, 2015

Mary Lux Northrup, age 97, gently passed away on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015, at Las Fuentes Resort Village in Prescott, Arizona. She was born on Dec. 9, 1917, in Passaic, New Jersey, to her parents John Philip and Jenny Belle (Cockefair) Lux.

Mary's beloved husband Francis B. 'Frank' Northrup Jr., whom she married in Nutley, New Jersey, on March 15, 1940, preceded her in death in 1984.

She is survived by all five of their children and spouses, Francis B. 'Ben' (Cynthia Collins) Northrup IV, Michael A. 'Mike' (Kay Plassman) Northrup, Miranda N. 'Randy' (John) Cook, John P. (Sylvia Horton) Northrup, and Richard B. 'Dick' (Patricia Mannino) Northrup; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren.

Mary was a gracious, vibrant, and friendly lady, interested in everyone she met and devoted to every friend. As a graduate of the McDowell Designing and Dressmaking School in New York City, she always enjoyed clothing design and was a gifted sewing teacher. She was a dedicated family caregiver, and a willing volunteer, always busy in church and community activities beginning as the youth choir director at the Franklin Dutch Reformed Church in Nutley.

She later served as a Cub Scout Den Mother, being one of the first women to receive the Scouters A Award, and also as a Campfire Girls Leader in West Milton, Ohio. Her public service continued through countless church activities and community activities in Howell, Michigan; Lakewood, Ohio; and finally Prescott, Arizona.

Mary especially cherished her lifelong memberships in the Order of the Eastern Star and the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She loved to travel, taking great pleasure in visiting friends and relatives everywhere in the USA. All her life she greatly enjoyed being outdoors: flower gardening, hunting for wildflowers, bird watching, hiking, camping, and exploring nature - traits she instilled in all her children and grandchildren.

Two memorial services will be held in celebration of Mary's life. The first will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at the First Congregational Church of Prescott, Arizona, with Retired Pastor Jane Cheek officiating and a reception following.

The second memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church of Howell, Michigan, with the Rev. George H. Lewis officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service begins. Howell Chapter #372 Order of the Eastern Star will conduct a funeral ceremony for the family prior to the visitation.

Following the memorial service the family will gather for a private graveside service at the Lakeview Cemetery in Howell.

Funeral services were trusted to Wakelin Family Funeral Homes. Please visit www.ruffnerwakelin.com to view and sign Mary's guestbook and for directions.
