Show Low, Arizona ~ 03/03/2015

Christopher Edward McCormac, 66, of Show Low peacefully passed away Jan. 25, 2015, surrounded by his loving family in Show Low after a brave and courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born April 6, 1948, to the late, Leonard Jerome and Joy Marie (Christianson) McCormac in Santa Monica, Calif.

Chris grew up in California having attended Hawthorne High School with the Beach Boys. He was an excellent wrestler during his time in school and even took fifth in state. He was an avid surfer who loved to ride a wave and enjoy the “easy life.”

Following his graduation from Hawthorne High in 1966, Chris served in the U.S. Air Force from 1968-72, having been stationed in Berlin during the Cold War and serving as a Polish translator. He also taught Polish during this time and it was then that he found his love of motorcycles. He enjoyed being on the open road and the peace he found while on his bike.

After being honorably discharged from the military Chris moved to Phoenix in 1972 where he built his own home, a task and feat he was very proud of. It was there that he had his two sons, Jason and Eric, before moving to Lakeside in 1987.

Chris began working for Western Technologies in Lakeside and after 17 years with the company, he retired in 2013. Chris never was one to miss a sunrise or sunset and appreciated nothing more than both of them here in the beautiful White Mountains of Arizona.

He loved to golf, fish and spending his time volunteering for the Show Low Elks Lodge 2090 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.

Chris had an absolute love for his family and nothing meant more to him than them. A loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, he will be dearly missed by all those he loved.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn McCormac of Show Low; sons Jason (Krissanee) of Las Vegas, Nev., and Eric McCormac of Phoenix; stepchildren Stephanie (Dan) Jensen of Show Low, Tim (Heather) Plumb of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Jeff Plumb of Tucson; 10 grandchildren, Destiny, Ben, Eli, Max, Scott, Alyssa, Drake, Arianna, Ethan and Xander; brother Steve Morton of Calif.; sisters Ellen Zimbalist and Robyn Wilson of California; as well as many extended family members and friends.

In true “Chris” spirit, his body was donated to the University of Tucson Body Donor Program for the advancement of medicine.

For those who would like to, the family asks that contributions be made to Accord Hospice of the White Mountains c/o White Mountain Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 1975, Lakeside, AZ 85929, in Chris’ name.
