Val Eugene Barnes, 85, of Prescott, Arizona, born in Tolleson, Arizona, passed away March 1, 2015.

Private inurnment will take place at the Prescott National Cemetery.

Val Eugene Barnes, 85, of Prescott, Arizona, passed away March 1, 2015. Val was born Feb. 17, 1930 in Tolleson, Arizona, to Harry and Florine Barnes. He was the oldest of five children, brothers Kenton (Betty) and Keith (Barbara), and sisters Pat Sims (Karl) and Gloria Joyce Spitler (Ed).

The family moved to Prescott in 1943, where Val attended Miller Valley School, Prescott Junior High School and Prescott High School, eventually joining the Navy in 1947. Val met Mildred Hadlock in junior high school and they married in 1950.

They had three children, Valerie Pickering (Beecher), Steve (deceased) (Cathy) and Michael (Jennifer). They have five grandchildren, Frank Dickerson, Sam Dickerson, Christopher Barnes, Michael Barnes, and Andrea Ardans; and five great-grandchildren, Beck Dickerson, Marley Dickerson, Autumn Dickerson, Valerie Dickerson, and Leo Ardans.

Val worked for Arizona Public Service for 38 years. He began his career in Prescott as a lineman and spent time in Payson, Tuba City, Ash Fork and Goodyear before returning to Prescott, where he worked until retirement.

Val and Mildred loved fishing and spent time at Roosevelt and Alamo Lake. Val was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was loved by his family and will be greatly missed.

Memorial services will be at the First Baptist Church in Prescott at a later date, with inurnment following at the Prescott National Cemetery.
