| The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Wednesday, March 04, 2015 Charley passed away quietly on Feb. 26, 2015. He is survived by Shirley, his wife of 69 years; his sons Gary and Ron, their wives and five grandchildren as well as three great grandchildren. Charley was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, where strong ethical values were instilled in him. He stayed true to them his entire life. He was an honest and honorable man who never knew a stranger. He's well known for his helpfulness, friendliness and joke telling. Charley was a devoted husband to his wife Shirley and a devoted father to Ron and Gary. Charley sold bakery items door to door in Kansas City for 12 years prior to moving to Phoenix, Arizona, in 1959. He started out with a horse and wagon. Charley continued to sell bread door to door another 10 years in Phoenix before working for the Arizona Department of Transportation for 16 years. He traveled the state as supervisor, installing signs on the freeways. Charley retired in 1983. Charley and Shirley moved to Prescott Valley in 1984. In 1988, he joined the Masonic Lodge and served as Master in 1993. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite and the Shriners. He was president of both. Charley volunteered at the VA hospital in Prescott for 22 years. This was something he loved doing. Charley and Shirley moved to Palmdale, California, in November 2014 to be closer to their son Ron and daughter-in-law Gwen as well as their grandchildren. Charley's memory will always remain in our hearts until that day when we're together again. Charley's memorial service will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2015, at Prescott Valley Christian Church at Longlook and Windsong. In lieu of flowers, it would be appreciated if donations were made to the Prescott Valley Christian Church, in Charley's memory. Information provided by survivors. |
