Viola Catherine (Vi) (Showers) Baker

Viola Catherine "Vi" Baker of Cottonwood died peacefully in hospice March 10, 2015. She was 94 years old. Viola was born January 7, 1921 to Margaret and Noble Showers in Akron, Ohio.

After graduating from high school, Viola attended Business College, then met and married Arthur "Art" Baker in 1941 in Akron. They were married happily for 65 years until Art's passing in 2006.

Viola retired from the National Park Service, Glen Canyon Recreational Area, after a long and dedicated career.

Viola was preceded in death by her husband Art and her son Bruce.

She leaves behind her daughter Cathy Baker of Cottonwood; grandson Jordan (Shellie) Baker of Clarkdale; granddaughter Danielle (Brian) Martinez of Englewood, CO; great-grandchildren Tanner and Tatum Baker, Josh and Mike Martinez and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Faye McMann of Prescott, AZ.

Viola's ashes will be placed alongside those of her husband and son at the V.A. National Cemetery in Carefree, AZ. Out of respect for Viola's wishes, the immediate family will have a private gathering.

Donations may be made in her memory to Mountain View United Methodist Church Food Pantry located at 901 S. 12th Street, Cottonwood or to Northern Arizona Hospice.

She will be greatly missed by all who know and loved her - a truly REMARKABLE woman.
